The Design Engineer I will be able to complete defined technical tasks at the direction of the Design Engineering Manager or Lead Design Engineer. The Design Engineer I will utilize the basic skills of understanding task direction as it relates to FN America product offerings and apply engineering disciplines for timely task completion in fulfillment of expectations. The Design Engineer I will also support product line extensions and improvements to existing product designs.
- Supports Lead Design Engineer in feasibility review, detailed development, data package creation and industrialization activities (50%)
- Conducts and documents hands-on product testing, sometimes extensive (15%)
- Manages execution of assigned tasks in adherence to project schedule and deliverables (10%)
- Collaborates effectively both within the department and cross-functional team environment to meet customer requirements (15%)
- Develops and implements product design improvements. (10%)
- *Other duties as assigned by management.
Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Bachelor of Applied Science or equivalent experience required.
Experience is not required with a bachelor’s degree but is preferred. Minimum of 4 years relevant work experience required without a bachelor’s degree.
Skills and Competencies

In addition, the position requires the ability to develop the full usage of required tools, as identified below, on difficult tasks and/or group of tasks or equivalent.
- Knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5 1994 and 1982.
- Lab Equipment and Measurement Tools
- Test Procedures
- 3D CAD software (PTC Creo preferred)
- Design Analysis and Simulation Software (experience with CeTol, Ansys or Adams preferred)
- Microsoft Office
Training on department specific Gateway (SharePoint based), PDS (PTC Windchill based), project management software will be required.
Typical office environment with some travel between buildings and to other locations required. May be exposed to loud noises, toxic chemicals, and dangerous machinery when on the plant floor.
